Developmental Disabilities Director

Jimmy Powell

Mr. Jimmy Powell is the Developmental Disabilities Director for the Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA). Contracted with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Department works to implement, maintain, and monitor programs in partnership with the Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities (OCDD). Operating with both state and federal funds, the DD Department provides assistance to people with developmental disabilities and their families across the 12 parishes of Region VIII with the vision of supporting each to achieve their individualized personal outcomes.

Mr. Powell began working with individuals with developmental disabilities in 1990. Over the course of his career, he has served in both private and state agencies with positions ranging from direct support to support coordination, psychological assistant, counselor, and program director. Mr. Powell has been a state employee since 1996, working with the DD Department since 1997. Additionally, Mr. Powell has been an adjunct instructor of psychology for the past 15 years at Delta VoTech, Delta Community College, and ULM, where he currently works as an online instructor.

Mr. Powell earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Psychometrics from Northeast Louisiana University, which is now the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
