East Carroll Parish Library in conjunction with Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NE Delta HSA) is conducting a Summer Reading Program Kick-Off at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2 at 109 Sparrow Street, Lake Providence.
“Northeast Delta HSA believes that reading is fundamental for success and increased opportunities in life,” said Dr. Monteic A. Sizer, NE Delta HSA Executive Director. “Many children and families in our region battle issues including mental illness, addiction, hunger and poverty, so it is critical that holistic approaches to reading and solving complex societal challenges be instituted,” he said. “We look forward to partnering with the leaders of East Carroll Parish to help improve reading and related social determinants that lead to a better quality of life.”
Kris Sanders, Director of the East Carroll Parish Library said “We’re excited to partner with NE Delta HSA on our Summer Reading Program because we know that literacy can be negatively impacted if social service needs are not met within our communities.”
“Our local leadership supports NE Delta HSA’s engagement around a healthy living approach,” said Joseph Jackson, former East Carroll Parish Police Jury President. “These efforts will benefit not only our region, but our state as well.”
“We are dedicated to our core business of providing mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities services to our citizens,” said Dr. Sizer. “However, we also recognize that educational programs are an integral facet to an improved, overall quality of life – otherwise our ability to effectively provide these services will be hindered.”
The Summer Reading Program Kick-Off is sponsored by Northeast Delta HSA, East Carroll Parish Library, and the LSU Ag Center. Call 318-559-2615 if you wish to pre-register your children for the event.
