From Dr. Monteic A. Sizer
Executive Director
Northeast Delta Human Services Authority
Mental Health Awareness Month is a summons for our region. It is a reminder that we are not merely managing crises, but we are being called to help transform the very conditions that create them. Northeast Louisiana is at a pivotal moment, one where we must choose whether to continue repeating cycles of brokenness or rise together into a new season of healing, unity, purpose, and collective prosperity.
Our region’s people are not defined by their trauma. They are defined by their potential. And when we come together—government, faith communities, families, educators, business leaders, and citizens—we become a force capable of reshaping the future of the Louisiana Delta.
This is the hour to see each other differently, more favorably. To see the humanity in the struggling mother and father, the brilliance in the anxious child, the worth in the neighbor battling addiction, and the dignity in the person living with mental illness. When we see people through the lens of possibility, we create the conditions for transformation.
Let us build systems that heal, not harm. Let us speak life where despair has taken root. Let us create communities where people are not isolated in their suffering but surrounded by support, compassion, and opportunity.
NEDHSA will continue to lead with vision, integrity, and a steadfast belief that our region can rise and thrive. But true transformation requires a collective awakening. It requires us to recognize that mental wellness is not just an individual need, it is a regional and collective mandate.
If we choose unity, if we choose compassion, if we choose action, we will not simply raise awareness; we will reshape destinies. Together, we can build a northeast Louisiana where healing becomes our way of life, hope becomes our language, and every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.
