Monroe, LA – Northeast Delta Human Services Authority is hosting a West Monroe Health Fair, Saturday (June 8) 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at the West Monroe Community Center, 400 S. 5th Street, West Monroe, LA 71292.
“I, along with members of Northeast Delta staff, met with West Monroe Mayor Staci Albritton Mitchell and some of her team just a few weeks ago,” said Dr. Monteic A. Sizer, executive director of Northeast Delta HSA. “We promised we would assist the citizens of West Monroe and the adjoining unincorporated areas, including Bawcomville. As an agency, we do exactly what we say. This health fair is just one example of us keeping our promise.”
The West Monroe Prevention and Wellness Health Fair is part of the agency’s integrated health care model, a coordinated approach inclusive of preventative efforts focused on health and wellness along with addictive disorder treatment, behavioral and mental services and developmental and intellectual disabilities services. The health event is hosted and sponsored by Northeast Delta, and it includes agency contractors and partners offering health-related benefits and services. The health fair will include about 20 agencies, vendors and organizations. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in diabetic, blood pressure and STD screenings. Participants can also learn about the many types of behavioral health care, prevention and developmental disability services Northeast Delta provides.
The fair’s theme is “Be Healthy. Be Happy,” promoting a health, wellness and preventive lifestyle to the community. Healthy foods and drinks will be provided. Music will be provided by DJ Twinz. Families are strongly encouraged to attend. Activities for children include inflatable bouncers, face painting and activity courses. Adults can enjoy learning about gambling addictions, drunken driving, fire safety, parenting and tobacco cessation. The West Monroe Police Department and the West Monroe Fire Department will be participating. There will be gift cards from Brookshires, SuperOne and Walmart.
“We’re happy that Mayor Mitchell and the center are providing this space for a health fair for West Monroe,” said Dr. Avius Carroll, wellness and prevention services director at Northeast Delta. “We are extremely excited about the regular collaboration between the center staff and our prevention team. It bodes well for the future.”
Sizer said “critical opportunities are being afforded and community members must take advantage of the health-related activities, services and life-changing information” as the agency provides a coordinated, holistic approach to health care as a part of dealing with some of society’s most entrenched social problems. “It is important to us that all constituents in our 12- parish region know that Northeast Delta cares and we are here to help,” he added.
